Reference: Alternet, The Bush-Packed Supreme Court Thinks Corporations Are People Too, Scott Klinger, Jan 22, 2010

Scott Klinger raises some interesting points concerning the recent Supreme Court ruling allowing unlimited contributions to support or oppose candidates by corporations, unions, or just anyone with lots of money. Most of the focus following this ruling has been on corporations...in effect granting them "human status," at least when it comes to financing and influencing elections. I will focus on just one issue highlighted by Klinger:

"Fifty years ago, corporate taxes made up nearly 22 percent of the federal treasury receipts; today corporate taxes contribute less than 13 percent to the federal budget. The mindset of many large corporations is that of takers, looking to be supported by society with a stream of tax credits and preferential tax rates. According to a 2008 report by the Government Accounting Office, 25 percent of large U.S. corporations paid no federal income taxes in 2005 (the latest year studied) despite reporting collective sales exceeding $1.1 trillion."
Remember the McCain rhetoric from the election doubling down on the Bush tax cuts by saying he would push for even bigger tax cuts for the rich and corporations?  The Republican Party is a party of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.  For those that believe in a Bilderberg conspiracy, a One World controlled by a corporate oligarchs..."humans"...with no Middle Class, then their roots must be in the Republican Party because they sure seem to be marching as a part of a "collective" in that direction, slowing picking away at Middle Class taxpayers to support their agenda.  And now the Supreme Court has effectively granted them "human status." I think they are really Borgs...not quite human.  Humans have a conscience.  Ha!
